What Do You Stand For?

I've been called as the Assistant Camp Director in our ward of 800+ people. Which is rather funny, since we have so many people and I already have another calling with Honey teaching 1 of 3 large Sunbeam classes!
Well, we had this Stake Camp Kick-off Tuesday night with a guest speaker. It was Jill Stevens! If you don't know who she is, I'll fill you in. (She's the blonde one in the picture with me) Jill Stevens is a nurse, soldier, Miss Utah and "The People's Choice Miss America". She is also a great example and really relateable.
The theme for this year is "Steadfast and Immoveable". As I was thinking about this earlier, I wondered what do we need to be steadfast in, and immoveable by what? Well, she shared a number of experiences that reinforce the theme. She also talked about what do you stand for? How can you be steadfast and immoveable if you have nothing to stand for? Who are we, really?
There was a part where she was talking about herself, saying she was stubborn, determined and definitely had a mind of her own growing up. I had this feeling that she was a lot like Girt and that Girt needed to know her. I felt like Girt had great things in store for her and I just need to guide her will and teach her to do good with her determination instead of fighting against us.
I was more inspired by that little eppiphany than the message she came bearing. Girt is definitely "Steadfast and Immoveable" sometimes, but now, I feel like it is a gift she has been given and I just need to help her learn how to use it.

Hey great picture! Lori and Britt said camp kick off was really good. Yay for your new calling, I'll know my girls are in good hands. It is ward camp this year right? You'll definately have your hands full. I hear what you're saying about kids being stubborn and stuff. It is hard to know the limits between teaching them with patience and demanding respect cuz you're the parent. I think it's a fine line! Brittany and Allison seem to be my challenges in that area. Sometimes I admire their determination to get what they want but other times it drives me crazy!! Hope all is well. Still not sleeping? Oh and did you see that I delivered your table back into your garage? Are you guys going to be able to make it to the Goudy's on the 12th. I believe we are planning on it. Talk soon! Love, Cheri
